This unit has been designed to meet the requirements of the Queensland Studies Authority Year 10 English Curriculum. In the Language strand of the curriculum, the unit meets the 'Text structure and organisation' and 'Expressing and developing ideas' sub-strands. It does this through the analysis of Shakespeare's Macbeth, to understand the use of structure, plot, characters and setting. It also satisfies this requirement by asking the students to study the text to find the language devices the author has used, and by creating their own use of language device in their major assessment task.
The unit meets the requirements of the Literature strand of the curriculum through the 'Examining literature' sub strand. It does this through the examination of both the television series and play of Macbeth, and by asking the students to reflect on their findings and what they have been learning through their individual reflections.
The unit meets the requirements of the Literacy stand of the curriculum through the 'Interacting with others' and 'Creating texts' sub strands. It does this through students collaborating to draw on the knowledge they have learnt in the unit, to create new representations of the text. It also satisfies these curriculum requirements through the students creating imaginative media content through their short film, and using a range of different software throughout the unit to create, edit and publish texts.
