Assessment Tasks
The assessment tasks will be ongoing throughout the unit to keep students on task and allow a continuation of knowledge building. Each assessment task will provide a lead up to the major assessment task.
Assessment Task 1 - Individual Blog
The first assessment task asks the students to create an individual blog to reflect on what they have been learning in the unit, as well as their thoughts and feelings about the activities they have been participating in, in the classroom. This is an individual task. The task will be teacher scaffolded through a set question each week that students are asked to answer. Students will be shown at the beginning of the unit how to create a blog in a class discussion led by the teacher. They will also be given time at the end of each lesson to complete the blog on school computers if they wish. Alternatively this task can be completed at home. The task will be worth 10% of the students overall mark for the unit.
Assessment Task 2 - Collaborative Wiki
In this assessment task, students are asked to create a Wiki in groups of three to discuss and decide on ideas and concepts for their major assessment task; their short film and presentation. The students must show all decision making, brainstorming and design concepts in the wiki. They will be shown when they are given this task how to create and use a wiki, however they will need to make it themselves within their groups. The students will be given time in class on school computers to create their wiki, but it is ultimately an at-home or outside of class activity. The task will be worth 30% of the students overall mark for the unit.
Assessment Task 3 - Short film and Class Presentation
This is the major assessment task for the unit. The task is broken up into two parts. The first part of the task asks the students to work in groups of three (the same groups as the wiki task) to create a short film. The students are asked to choose a scene from William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, and transform it into a modern day scene. The language, issues presented in the scene, costumes and props must be suited to modern day. The students must also use at least three different language devices throughout the scene. The short film must go for no shorter than five minutes. This is a collaborative and self-directed task. This part of the task is worth 40% of the students overall mark for the unit.
The second part of the task is a class presentation. Students will be asked, in their groups of three, to create a Powerpoint or Prezi presentation that they will present to the class. The presentation must include the following; the scene they have chosen from Macbeth, a brief summary of the original scene, how they have altered the scene to suit a modern day context, what language devices they have used for the altered scene, and the short film itself. Students already have prior knowledge about Powerpoint presentations, and an they are shown in class how to create a Prezi by the teacher. This part of the task is worth 20% of the students' overall grade for the unit.
